About John Ripard

John Ripard is a retired Maltese sailor who competed at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. He sailed in the Star Class event alongside his brother, Paul Ripard, and they finished 25th.

Before the Olympics, John had represented Malta at the 1955 Mediterranean Games, racing in the Snipe Class.

He later won the Rolex Middle Sea Race twice, in 1968 and 1970.

After his racing career, Ripard became an international sailing referee. He officiated at four America’s Cup events (1987, 1988, 1992, and 1995) and at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He also served as President of the Royal Malta Yacht Club.

Outside of sailing, he worked in business and was chairman of the family company, John Ripard & Son (Shipping) Ltd, founded in 1901.
