The Young Olympic Board Executives (YOBE) recently convened in Malta for a key networking session hosted by the Maltese Olympic Committee. This year’s discussions focused on evaluating how National Olympic Committees (NOCs) operate, identifying opportunities for growth, and exploring ways to collaborate and support each other. Since its inception just four years ago with only four members, YOBE has grown substantially, with this year’s session welcoming 19 participants from across Europe. The initiative, supported by Olympic Solidarity, continues to foster a new generation of sports leaders, providing a platform for young executives to exchange ideas and shape the future of sports governance. During their visit to Malta, participants not only engaged in networking opportunities and seminars but also had the chance to experience the island’s renowned hospitality, cuisine, and stunning sights, making for a truly enriching and memorable gathering. As part of their itinerary, the delegates were welcomed by Maltese Olympic Committee President Mr Julian Pace Bonello and members of the Secretariat, and they also visited the Maltese Olympic Committee Museum, gaining insights into the country’s rich sporting history. Amongst the participants are former top flight athletes who have transitioned into leadership roles within their NOCs. Among them are Olympians, Olympic champions and world champions from various disciplines. “With the continued growth of YOBE, the future of sports leadership is in strong hands—built on experience, driven by passion, and committed to excellence. The dynamic combination of young executives and established members within the NOCs’ Executive Committees provides a strong foundation for innovative leadership, ensuring a positive and progressive future for sports governance,” commented Charlene Attard, Director of Sport, Maltese Olympic Committee.
