The Maltese Olympic Committee hosted a farewell event earlier today to bid Team Malta athletes a warm send-off ahead of their departure to Andorra for the 2025 Games of the Small States of Europe. Welcoming the contingent was MOC Deputy President Paul Sultana, who congratulated the athletes on their well-deserved selection to represent Malta, praising their hard work and commitment. He expressed confidence that they will carry Malta’s flag with pride and determination in Andorra. Present for the event was Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Hon. Dr Clifton Grima, and SportMalta Chairman Mr Matthew Pisani, both of whom expressed their pride and support for the athletes. SportMalta Chairman Matthew Pisani said, “We wish you the very best of luck for the Games. SportMalta will continue to support the Maltese Olympic Committee and all our athletes in their sporting journeys. Go out there, give it your all, and make Malta proud.” Minister Grima added, “Thank you for the sacrifices, dedication, and hard work that have brought you to this point. Representing Malta on the international stage is no small feat – it is a responsibility and an honour. As you compete in Andorra, know that the nation is behind you, supporting every step of the way. Best of luck – we are confident you will make us proud.” A memento was presented to the Maltese Olympic Committee’s partners and sponsors who were present for the event. Team Malta is expected to depart later this evening to begin its participation in the biennial multi-sport event, which brings together athletes from nine small European states. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Monday 26th May. Francesca Curmi (Tennis) and Jared Micallef (Athletics) were chosen as flag bearers. Competitions start on the 27th May and will draw to a close on the 31st May.
