Team Malta saw action on the water and on the track today, with competition in rowing, sailing, and athletics.

The day began with Mark Schembri representing Malta in the Men’s Single Sculls Heat 1, where he clocked a time of 8:33.29.

In Sailing,  two more races were completed for each of the ILCA classes: in ILCA 6, Katrina Micallef and Mia Busuttil currently stand in 12th and 16th place respectively, while in ILCA 7, Matthew Flores and Benjamin Vassallo sit in 15th and 17th place respectively. The shifty and unstable wind made it a challenging day on the water especially with such a compact, tactical fleet and competitive racing. With three races still to go, there is plenty left to sail for.

In athletics, Matthew Galea Soler ran in Heat 2 of the 400m, getting out fast over the opening 200m before coming home to clock his second-best time this season — 47.18s.

On Tuesday 1st September, Team Malta continues with two more sailing races.

Mark Schembri, in rowing, will once again be in action this time in the Men’s Single Sculls – Final B.

Tenishia Thornton competes in the 69kg category in weightlifting. In karate, Thyis Antonelli steps onto the mat at 15:21 in the Women’s -61kg Kumite Elimination Round of 16, where she faces Wafa Mahjoub of Tunisia. In athletics, Claire Azzopardi and Graham Pellegrini will compete in the women’s and men’s 200m heats respectively.
