About Ryan Gambin

Ryan Gambin born in Southport, Queensland, Australia is a former butterfly swimmer who represented Malta at international competitions.

Although born and raised in Australia, he qualified to swim for Malta through his family background. He trained at the Southport Olympic Pool under coach Glen Baker.

Gambin gained international attention at the 2008 European Championships in the Netherlands, where he swam the 100m butterfly in 54.33 seconds, meeting the FINA B-qualifying standard for the Olympics.

Later that year, he competed for Malta at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In the men’s 100m butterfly, he swam in heat four and set a new personal best and Maltese national record of 53.70 seconds. He finished sixth in his heat and 48th overall, but did not advance to the semi-finals.

In the lead-up to the Olympics, Gambin also broke several Maltese records at events in Luxembourg and Paris.

After retiring from competitive swimming, he returned to Australia and began working as a personal trainer and fitness instructor on the Gold Coast.
