About Charlene Attard

Charlene Attard is a Maltese sprinter who has represented her country in international athletics, specialising in the 100m and 200m events.

She competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, running the 100m sprint in 12.20 seconds, and placed sixth in her heat.

Charlene was the first Maltese woman to run the 100 metres in under 12 seconds and was a member of the Malta national athletics team from 2002 to 2015.

She began athletics at a young age after being encouraged by a primary school teacher who noticed her speed. Before focusing on sprinting at age 13, she also tried gymnastics, swimming, and long-distance running.

Charlene was named Athlete of the Year by the Malta Amateur Athletics Association in 2006, 2007, and 2008.

Outside of competition, she worked as a PE teacher in Sliema and, since 2021, she has served as the Director of Sport at the Maltese Olympic Committee.
