Angela Galea

Angela Galea, is a former Maltese swimmer who specialised in butterfly events. She represented Malta at two Olympic Games, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, and won three gold medals at the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE). Galea also held multiple national records in both butterfly and freestyle events over 50, 100, and 200 metres.
About Angela Galea
In preparation for her international competitions, she trained with the Italian Olympic team under coach Maurizio Cocconi. At just 17 years old, she made her Olympic debut in Sydney, setting a new Maltese record in the 100m butterfly. She qualified again for the same event at the Athens Olympics through a Universality place from FINA and had improved her record at the GSSE the previous year. Although she didn’t advance to the semifinals in either Games, Galea remains one of Malta’s most accomplished swimmers.
