Team Malta celebrated its first medal in the second edition of the Malta Invitational Games, as badminton doubles partners Jeremy Gatt and Juan Casaru claimed bronze on Friday. The opening day of competition featured qualification rounds for the singles events, where Maltese athletes gave a commendable effort, particularly younger players (U15) competing in the U18 category, though none advanced to the next round. In the doubles events, the semi-final rounds for both boys’ and girls’ doubles took place. Ultimately, two Cypriot pairs will contest the boys’ final, while Malta earned bronze thanks to the strong performance of Jeremy Gatt and Juan Casaru. In the girls’ doubles, two pairs from the Faroe Islands progressed to the final.
Matches will resume on Saturday morning with the main draw events for boys’ and girls’ singles, leading up to the semi-finals. The mixed doubles event is scheduled for the late afternoon, concluding with the quarter-final rounds. The Malta Invitational Games are supported by Sport Malta, APS Bank, National Lottery and General Soft Drinks.
