Joseph “Peppi” Grech also known by his nickname it-Tarzan, was a distinguished Maltese sports shooter. Over the course of his career, he represented Malta in three Olympic Games, Rome 1960, Mexico City 1968, and Munich 1972, making him one of Malta’s most enduring figures in the sport.

At the 1960 Summer Olympics, Grech competed in trap shooting, and later transitioned to skeet shooting, representing Malta again in 1968 and 1972. In the 1968 Olympics, he placed 46th, and in 1972, he finished 55th in the skeet event.

In addition to his sporting achievements, Grech also had the honor of serving as Malta’s flag bearer during the opening ceremony of the 1972 Summer Olympics, a symbolic recognition of his dedication and contribution to Maltese sport.

He is remembered not only for his international representation but also for his role in inspiring future generations of Maltese shooters.
