The Maltese Olympic Academy has launched the Olympic Values Campaign which celebrates the Olympic Values and Olympism amongst Maltese students in the weeks leading to the Paris 2024 Games. The Campaign is split into three parts where students are encouraged to get into the Olympic spirit by learning about the Games as well as be of support to Maltese athletes who are currently preparing for qualification and subsequent participation. Students up to the age of thirteen can also compete in a further four competitions wherein through these students the Maltese Olympic Committee aims to honour and promote the Olympic values through creativity and uniqueness. Each participant, under the recommended guidance of their Physical Education teacher,  is allowed one entry for Competitions 1-3, whilst for contest 4, schools are being asked to submit one entry in the name of their school. Competitions 1 to 3 consist of Photography – for which students will be required to take a photo which represents one of the Olympic Values;  Art – where students are require to create a painting, sculpture, digital illustration etc; and a Literature Essay about their Role Model in Maltese sport. For students in year 5/6 essay needs to be of 150 words whilst for year 7/8 a word count of 300 words is requested. The essay should be about a Maltese athletes and how they are of inspiration to the writer. The School Project aims to bring together the whole school, wherein a short 2-minute video is produced of the school engaging in an activity – sport, dance, song etc which showcase the Olympic Values and which will be of encouragement to Maltese athletes competing in the Paris Games. This initiative will see winners receive memorabilia relating to the Games as well as a sport voucher sponsors by Full Marks, whilst prizes for the Schools projects will be in the form of financial contributions towards sports school equipment. “This competition aims to instil the Olympic Values – excellence, respect and friendship – which are not only applicable in sport but in every day life.  The competition is a journey which the Maltese Olympic Committee would like to undertake with a younger community to bring the spirit of the Games closer to their hearts” commented David Azzopardi,  Chair – Maltese Olympic Academy.
