The Women in Sports Commission, within the Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC), recently hosted the ”Women in Sport Leadership Forum” , a dynamic and engaging event aimed at empowering women in the sports sector. The Forum, led by Gabriela Mueller Mendoza, a renowned leadership coach and speaker and recognized internationally for her expertise in empowering women in sports and business, welcomed 30 female participants, representing 20 federations and associations including the Maltese Olympic Committee and the Malta Paralympic Committee. Over the course of the weekend, attendees engaged in interactive training sessions and discussions that challenged them to step outside their comfort zones and develop vital leadership skills. Lucienne Attard, Chair of the Women in Sports Commission, emphasized the forum’s significance, saying, “A seed was sown this weekend, and now it needs to be nurtured to enable it to flourish and bear fruit. We are onto something important and special as this Forum is an important step towards gender equity in sports”. The content of the weekend Forum was designed by Gabriela Mueller to push women out of their comfort zones and help them embrace bolder, more confident leadership roles. The Forum’s objective was to empower women to confront challenges head-on, make bold decisions, and drive meaningful change in their careers and personal lives. The training programme aimed to help participants develop a resilient mindset, communicate more effectively, and unlock their full potential by embracing discomfort as a catalyst for growth. MOC President Julian Pace Bonello highlighted the MOC’s longstanding commitment to gender equity in sports leadership. He noted, “The Maltese Olympic Committee has always been at the forefront of promoting gender equity, and I am proud to say that our Executive currently has equal gender representation – long before efforts on an international level started to gain momentum” His statement reflects the MOC’s dedication to ensuring balanced and inclusive leadership within the sports community. This event, supported by Olympic Solidarity, is part of the MOC’s broader initiative to promote gender equality and empower women to take on leadership roles within the sporting world.
