In 1928 the Olympic Committee of Malta was founded, later rebranded as the Maltese Olympic Committee, with Anthony Cassar Torreggiani serving as its first president. Malta made its Olympic debut at the Amsterdam Summer Olympic Games through participation in water polo, with the team consisting of Harry Bonavia, Meme Busietta, Victor Busietta, Louis Darmanin, Edoardo Magri, Francisco Nappa, Victor Pace, Turu Rizzo, and Roger Vella. Malta did not march in the Opening Ceremony. This debut established Malta’s first Olympic sport and marked the beginning of the nation’s Olympic history.
