In 1968 Malta competed in the Mexico City Summer Olympics with shooter Peppi Grech, with Louis Grasso serving as both Opening Ceremony flag bearer and Chef de Mission. The high altitude of Mexico City impacted many events, and the Games were famous for Bob Beamon’s long jump and Dick Fosbury’s Fosbury Flop. The same year, Victor Pace became the fourth president of the Maltese Olympic Committee.
