At the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games, Malta competed with seven athletes across athletics, shooting, swimming, and weightlifting. Andrew Chetcuti served as Opening Ceremony flag bearer and Charlotte Wingfield as Closing Ceremony flag bearer. William Chetcuti became the first Maltese athlete to compete in four consecutive Olympics, and Malta made its Olympic debut in weightlifting with Kyle Micallef. The delegation included William Chetcuti and Eleanor Bezzina in shooting, Nicola Muscat and Andrew Chetcuti in swimming, Luke Bezzina and Charlotte Wingfield in athletics, and Kyle Micallef in weightlifting.
