The Commonwealth Youth Games are a multi-sport event for young athletes from Commonwealth nations and territories. They provide an important platform for developing athletes and giving them international competition experience. The first Commonwealth Youth Games were held in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2000. Athletes compete in a range of sports, with the programme designed to encourage participation, friendship and cultural exchange among young people from across the Commonwealth. The Games also help identify and develop athletes who may go on to represent their countries at senior Commonwealth Games and other major international competitions.
