The Malta Bridge Association was founded in 1993 to serve as the official governing body for duplicate bridge in Malta. It was established during a public meeting by a group of passionate players, with Dr. Albert Ganado elected as the first president. Founding members included Dr. Ganado, Dr. Francis Consiglio, Ing. Albert Sacco, Mr. Mario Dix, Mr. Stephen Borg, Mr. Gino Miceli, and Mrs. Joan Consiglio. A draft statute was drawn up to promote the game, regulate competitions, resolve disputes, and ensure adherence to the rules set by the World Bridge Federation. The MBA later affiliated with the World Bridge Federation, the European Bridge League, the English Bridge Union, and the Malta Olympic Committee. It also obtained the right to award Master Points and Green Points to affiliated players in national and festival events.
