The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta (ASA) was established in 1925, evolving from early 1910s       water polo activities introduced by British servicemen. Initially, matches were held in Marsamxett and Ghar id-Dud, with local clubs like Sliema United and Valletta Dolphins emerging by 1912. Malta’s water polo prominence led to participation in the 1928 Amsterdam and 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. Post-World War II, the ASA organized international competitions featuring teams from countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Russia, and Brazil. Approaching its centennial in 2025, the ASA continues to promote aquatic sports, exemplified by hosting the European Men’s Water Polo Champions League Final Four in June 2024.
