Tuesday saw Team Malta athletes in action across five sports, with competition spanning the tatami, the weightlifting platform, the track and the water for rowing and sailing competitions. Here is a roundup of the day’s results.
Karate

Thyis Antonelli made her Mediterranean Games debut at senior level in the -61kg category, where she was the youngest competitor in her division. Drawn against Tunisia’s Wafa Mahjoub, ranked sixth in the world, Antonelli showed maturity and composure well beyond her years, making her opponent work hard for every point before falling 4-2. The performance was an encouraging milestone in her development on the senior circuit.
Weightlifting
Tenishia Thornton competed in the 69kg category this afternoon, finishing seventh in the Snatch with a lift of 92kg and eighth in the Clean & Jerk with 113kg.
Athletics

Graham Pellegrini lined up in the first heat of the Men’s 200m, crossing the line in 21.81 seconds, just outside his personal best.
Rowing

Mark Schembri competed in the Men’s Single Sculls Final B this morning, completing the course in a time of 2:07.08.
Sailing

Shifting and unpredictable winds continued to define conditions through the closing races, keeping the standings fluid as Malta’s sailors moved up and down the overall rankings. The final race takes place on Wednesday, making it a relatively quiet day for Team Malta with Sailing the sole event on the schedule.
Friday then brings the curtain down on Team Malta’s Mediterranean Games campaign, with Dillon Cassar and Luke Micallef Perconte taking to the roads for the Half Marathon.
